The elaborate Stick Style wooden features of this house ornament the similarly beautiful brick surfaces. A building in excellent repair, this house is an example of the complex and sophisticated nature of finely executed Victorian architecture. Brown was an apprentice of Henry Austin. Max Adler, successful in the corset making business, was from one of the first families of Jewish immigrants to New Haven. His partnership with Isaac Strouse developed into Strouse, Adler and Company which was one of the largest manufacturers of womens undergarments in the world.
