Notes:
This church is important in studying the origins of the Stick Style. It is very fine and early specimen of the style. The manner and liberal use of stick-work, chamfered posts, beams and buttresses foreshadows the widespread application of these details by nearly two decades. Transplanted englishmen Wills and Dudly were, for a brief time , a very successful partnership with a clientele that ranged from Canada to the Deep South. Wills in particular was an important figure acquiring commissions for religious buildings in direct competition with noteworthy contemporaries such as Richard Upjohn. His early death while working on a project in Montreal cut short a promising career.
