The Surfside Life-Saving station on Nantucket was built in the Stick Style, 1874 type. The museum building on site is a replica of the original structure. Albert B. Bibb designed the 1885 alterations which are shown in the postcard image and include the lean-to sides and the lookout tower. The stick-work in the gable was retained. (See also the White Head, ME Life-Saving Station) Bibb created a number of original designs for life-saving stations from the mid 1880s on in the shingle style, many of which still stand.
