St. Peter's by the Sea Episcopal Church

Building Name:
St. Peter's by the Sea Episcopal Church

Architect:
Unknown

Date:
1876

Address:
Cape May, NJ

Current Use:
Church

Notes:
The origins of this quintessential Stick Style structure are interesting and somewhat in dispute. The most credible and documented version is that it was purchased from the Philadelphia Centennial Exhibition of 1876, disassembled for shipment and rebuilt in Cape May around 1880. It was subsequently moved to Cape May Point. The belfry and entrance are documented Cape May additions. In a place noted for its outstanding collection of Victorian wood-frame buildings, this is a unique treasure.
