John Wood House "The Woodshed"

Building Name:
John Wood House "The Woodshed"

Architect:
Pohl, George R. and Simonson, Otto G. (1862-1922) attr.

Date:
1890

Address:
115 Central Avenue Long Island, NY

Current Use:
Residential

Notes:
This very exuberant Victorian combines the form of the Second Empire with the ornamentation of the Stick Style. In outstanding restored condition, stick elements abound including chamfered brackets, vertical frieze boards, jerkinhead dormers and patterned slate roof. A gem.
This house is nearly identical to one illustrated in the Jennings book below. The design was one submitted to a competition sponsored by the journal Carpentry & Building in 1886 by Pohl and Simonson.
