The UMass Dartmouth library contains several special collections which make it unique.

For example:

  • The Robert F. Kennedy Assassination Archive, a major research collection pertaining to the murder of the late senator, includes thousands of newspaper clippings, Los Angeles Police Department reports, interviews and books. It is the only collection like this in the world and researchers from around the country come to work here.

The RFKAA is in the archives on the fourth floor.

  • The University Archives, on the fourth floor of the library, includes the official papers of the founding of the university, papers of the university leaders, a complete collection of the student newspapers, and many clippings about the campus.

  • Microfilm Collections Microfilm allows libraries to store vasts amounts of full images in small spaces. Though not a very "high-tech" technology by today's standards, it does work! The library has over 50 special microfilm collections, covering topics such as The Right Wing Collection, the papers of Elizabeth Cady Stanton and Susan B. Anthony and the FBI Assassination File on Martin Luther King.

Most of these special microfilm collections are on the third floor, but it is best to check with the reference staff on the second floor for assistance.

  • Browsing Collection, located on the first floor, includes current best sellers and recent publications on various topics such as social and political issues, health, computers, etc...

  • Periodicals reading area, located on the first floor, offers a selection of popular magazines and scholarly journals in a comfortable setting for browsing and reading.
