Who can use these Virtual Catalogs?

Anyone may search the Virtual Catalog by typing "guest" in the "Patron ID" field. To request material, you must sign in with your ID number. Each participating library determines which of its patrons may submit borrowing requests, and the way they will be handled at that library.

Current UMass Dartmouth STUDENTS, FACULTY and STAFF may submit borrowing requests. Your borrowing status must be active. If you’re unsure, check at the Circulation Desk or call 508-999-8750. Please take care of any outstanding fines or overdue items before using the borrowing service.

What material may be borrowed?

Each participating library determines which items in its collection are eligible for borrowing on the Virtual Catalog. In general, this includes books and other materials that normally can be checked out. You may not be able to request books that are already checked out, or that are in reference, course reserve, audio-visual, or other special collections. If your request is accepted by the Virtual Catalog, then the system has identified at least one copy that can be requested. If the book you want cannot be borrowed on the Virtual Catalog, it may be available through other Interlibrary Loan Services at UMass Dartmouth.

What about journals?

Journals and other serials are not included in the Virtual Catalog at this time, and journal articles cannot be requested. Instead, submit a request to Interlibrary Loan

How long does it take to borrow something?

If the material you requested is available at the first library identified, it should be ready for pickup about a week after your original request. If the material isn’t at the first library, it will take longer.

Where do I pick up and return material?

You will receive an email notice when the material has been received at UMass Dartmouth. Come to the Circulation Desk; you will need your UMass Pass to check the material out. When you are done with the material, please return it to the Circulation Desk.

What are the loan policies?

Loan period: 28 days

Renewals: Not permitted.

Fines and replacement billing: Same as for UMass Dartmouth material.

What libraries belong to each Virtual Catalog?

There are now two separate "Virtual Catalogs". The Boston Library Consortium Virtual Catalog consists of academic libraries throughout New England. The Massachusetts Virtual Catalog is a mix of public and academic libraries in Massachusetts. UMass Dartmouth, Amherst, Boston and Lowell belong to both systems.
