Claire Riley
Claire Riley saw the library as the nerve center of the institute. A native of New Bedford, Ms. Riley was educated at Smith College. She worked for many years in the New Bedford Public Library System and taught at Simmons College. When the institute merged with Bradford Durfee to form SMTI, Claire Riley was appointed Acquisitions Librarian. She retired in 1968, before the new North Dartmouth library was built. In 1997 she left one of the largest bequests to the UMass Dartmouth library, making additional books purchases possible.
